Towns of South-East Spain - Costa Blanca South

Alicante

Mar MenorHuge investment in recent years has made a massive difference to the appearance and atmosphere in Alicante town. The town had become a bit shabby during the 80’s and 90’s but not now! The Marina is very smart – loads of very posh but inexpensive restaurants looking over the not so inexpensive yachts moored there.

There is a lovely wavy tiled promenade (Explanada de España) shaded by huge palm trees all along the front down to the Marina – it’s a great place for al fresco dining and people watching. There are always stalls selling all sorts along the promenade and it’s just lovely to walk along and soak up the atmosphere.

As you would expect the town center has big department stores such as El Corte Inglés, and of course the vast Mercado Central, central market.

The sandy beach Playa del Postiguet has a blue flag award and is overlooked by Alicante’s castle.

The local economy depends on tourism and benefits from having the longest summer season in Spain. Alicante does well from the good fishing grounds and the fertile land.

Alicante is an established town so there’s not much in the way of new developments but there are plenty of good resale properties to be found in and around the town
