Towns of South-East Spain - Costa Blanca North

Altea

AlteaAn easy journey straight up the A7 from Alicante takes you to Altea, which can be reached via the N332 that runs along the coast.

Medieval cobbled lanes, palm trees and a wonderful beach front esplanade designed just for our pleasure is what it’s like in Altea. This is a peaceful resort and not the place for you if you are after wild nightlife.

The old quarter sits on the top of a hill and the views are stunning. You can see the Penon de Ifach at Calpe and right across the whole La Marina regions. Plaza de Nuestra Senora del Consuelo is a unique church often photographed for its striking blue roof tiles.

The newer part of the town is as you would expect down nearer the beaches and all of the facilities needed by a growing population, such as supermarkets, banks, shops, restaurants, medical facilities and so on. This is a large multinational expatriate community and popular with those wishing to retire.

About 10 kilometers north to Benidorm and you will find a complete contrast. 8 kilometers from Altea, heading inland, is Polop, a small town surrounded by pine groves, a good place if you are looking for peace and quiet.

Calpe is another nearby town, easy to get to and well worth a visit.
La Nucia to the north of Altea has a lovely Sunday market and is a nice place for a day trip.

The climate here is of course mild in winter and hot hot hot in summer.

There are some very nice new developments being constructed on the outskirts of Altea but if you are looking for something more traditional and established this is a good place to look.
