Towns of South-East Spain - Costa Blanca North
Benidorm
Everyone
has heard of Benidorm and not always for the right reasons.
Somewhat unfairly Benidorm still has a reputation for being
big, brash and not particularly attractive. True it is the
biggest holiday resort on the Costa Blanca and there are 180,000
visiting every year. The high rise apartment blocks and hotels
are not everyone’s choice of a dream location but Benidorm
has definitely done a lot to get rid of its brash appearance
and the local council has done a superb job of cleaning up
the towns’ reputation. All sorts of jazz and classical
performances are provided free of charge and much is done
to make life here really lovely.
Alicante Airport -El Altet is just 60 km to the south and
Valencia airport 140 km north. The journey is made easy by
joining/exiting the A7 at junction 65.
There are 2 main beaches - Levante and Poniente beaches
- with fine sand and they are extremely well maintained. In
the center is The Canfali hill, which divides the coast in
two. The walk along the shore totals five kilometres, providing
a spectacular view of the sea and the Alicante coast.
The choice of bars and restaurants is quite amazing, many
of them offering typical English meals.
As you approach Benidorm from Villajoyosa in the South or
Altea in the North you can’t help but gasp at the number
of high rise building along the coast but once you are in
the town there is no such awareness of the size and scope
of the town. It doesn’t take long to find natural beauty
in the area; just drive up to Safari Aitana to see one of
the largest safari parks in Europe.
Property is quite expensive in Benidorm town and the choice
of property type is fairly limited to apartments, but if you
want the benefit of all that Benidorm has to offer but you
are happy to be located on the outskirts then the choice is
much greater.
