Towns of South-East Spain - Costa Blanca North
Denia
At
the bottom of the Montgo Mountain, Denia sits between near
Javea just off the A7 motorway with the N332 coast road running
through the town. There is a lovely narrow gauge railway linking
Denia to Benidorm and Alicante. Temperatures are typical of
the Costas with average temperatures around 30 degrees in
summer and not much less than 10 degrees in winter
Denia has about 30,000 residents, many of whom still depend
on the harbour to earn their living through fishing and sea
travel despite the flourishing tourism industry. There are
excellent ferry connections to Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, Formentera
and other ports along the coast.
Denia Castle is a popular place of interest. Built in the
11th century it’s a great place to take in the views
of the city and the coast. The castle houses a good museum
Palau del Governador and in the tow you will find the Museo
Etnologico.
There are some good hotels and tasteful shops in Calle de
Marques de Campo - a street named after the Marquis of Denia
- and it’s a very nice place to sit with a drink to
people watch whilst you enjoy local cuisine, first class seafood
and a healthy range of tapas.
The beaches are all European blue flag status and stretch
for over 20 km along the coasts.
Property in Costa Blanca North is a little bit more expensive
that in the South and there is a good choice of new build
and resale property. There are some delightful traditional
Spanish fishing village properties around the town but they
tend to be passed down through the generations so they are
quite hard to come by.
