Towns of South-East Spain - Costa Blanca South
Torre de la Horadada
In
an area know as Orihuela Costa, Torre de la Horadada sits
on the border of Costa Blanca and Costa Calida close to the
beautiful Mar Menor lagoon in Murcia.
Junction 770 on the A7 Motorway leads you down to the N332
coastal road and into Torre (as the locals call it). 15 minutes
south on the A7 gets you to Murcia (San Javier) airport and
50 minutes north takes you to Alicante airport. The A7 is
also a speedy link to the numerous golf courses in the area
and the excellent shopping town of Pilar de la Horadada, where
you will find everything you need plus a cinema showing English
films, a great swimming pool with a roof that closes over
for the winter months. There is a good bus service that takes
you to Pillar and the other local towns and the route ends
about 90 minutes later in the wonderful city of Murcia.
Torre has the best of both worlds – it’s really
rather sleepy but it has everything within easy reach. The
marina and the square are the main focal points of the town
– we’ve spent many hours around the marina just
looking out to sea and drinking far too much wine. It can
get quite busy during the summer with lots happening on the
beach and in the marina as water sport enthusiasts make the
most of the local facilities. In the evening you can wander
into the plaza of Pueblo Latino where there is a great choice
of restaurants and bars and the lighting is subtle and the
atmosphere relaxing - a very popular venue for al fresco dining.
There are a good many town houses, semi-detached houses
and detached villas in the area and a few apartments for sale.
It’s a popular area and in demand as there are not that
many towns on the coast side of the N332 with quite as much
choice.
